While we’ve already had a look back at the year that was, here’s a little reminder that China’s Spring Festival, coinciding with their Lunar New Year, is just about to get underway on January 28th. As much of the country will soon be on holiday, it seemed the perfect time to gauge the Chinese domain name market. Since we last checked in on the global state of our domains, China has continued to be the second-largest market for Rightside domains, with registrations totalling around 130,000 at the time of this writing. Our .PUB, .NEWS, and .LIVE extensions round out the top three best sellers in the country.
As we continue to work on attaining a license for Rightside domains to go live in China, it’s notable that some Chinese companies, like Axion Games, are already finding the value of their new domain’s online branding to market to the rest of the world.
Among many other countries, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam will also have Lunar New Year’s celebrations coinciding with China’s. Together, Korea and Vietnam account for over a thousand registered Rightside domains, including some very interesting use cases, such as:
- DarkCircles.DANCE – A Korean contemporary dance company founded in 2010 that has traveled all over the world, including China, Japan, Sweden, and the United States.
- KayO.LIVE – A restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City just off the Saigon River. Modeled on Western sports bars, it’s a great place to catch a game, have a business lunch, or host a banquet.
- Jinju.MARKET – A redirect to the Facebook page for the Gyeongnam Flea Market in the Korean city of Jinju. Local residents gather at the flea market on the fourth Saturday of every month to sell their wares.
- Tadang.STUDIO – Tadang is a Vietnamese design studio offering a full suite of services, including brand, product, and packaging design.
To everyone at home and abroad celebrating their Lunar New Year this coming Saturday, we wish them a safe and happy Year of the Rooster.
