Rightside is Now a Standalone Public Company

Last week we announced an important milestone for our business, as we have successfully completed Rightside’s separation from Demand Media into a standalone public company. Rightside now owns and operates the former domain name services business of Demand Media. Our common stock began trading on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the symbol “NAME” as of the stock market open on Monday, August 4, 2014.

What is Rightside?

This is an important step for us because it better positions Rightside to fulfill our mission: to advance the way businesses and consumers define themselves online. This is a big vision with nearly boundless potential, and I believe we have the right people, business capabilities, and strategy to make this vision a reality. And now, we also have a level of focus and operational flexibility that should enable us to take full advantage of the industry reshaping opportunity presented by the availability of hundreds of new Top Level Domains (TLDs).

Just as new TLDs have reshaped our industry, we’ve reshaped our business for this time and place. To get here, we’ve relied upon an amazingly smart and dedicated staff and an expansive network of more than 20,000 business partners. Thank you for all of the effort and trust you’ve given us along the way. Together, we are delivering value to millions of customers every day.

Our colleagues at Demand Media also deserve a very heartfelt “thank you” as well. We have learned so much from you and truly appreciate all of your encouragement and support over the past eight years. This certainly includes the tremendous effort that went into effecting the spin-off itself. You are an amazingly innovative and determined group of individuals, and we wish you much success in the years to come.

We wouldn’t have achieved this milestone if not for our people—a group of talented, hardworking pros, each one of whom is dedicated to finding new ways to help customers unlock their full potential. To thank them and ring in the newly independent Rightside, we got our teams together for celebratory cocktails—and in one city, a little bowling. Check out the photos from our team celebrations in Kirkland, WA, Denver, CO, and Dublin, Ireland.

As Rightside embarks on this new chapter, I couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds. It’s a brand new world for the Internet and a bright new day for Rightside.
