Ninjas are notorious for their stealth and ability to sneak in and out of locations without being noticed, but when Rightside sent ninjas to take over the X Games in Austin last month, they were hard to miss! With the launch of our new top level domain, .NINJA into general availability, the timing was perfect for Rightside to participate as a sponsor of the 2014 X Games.
About 160,000 people came through Austin, Texas, to watch the world’s best extreme athletes compete in moto x, skateboarding, BMX, rallying and off-road trucking. Rightside was onsite all three days, June 5-8, bringing a .NINJA flavor to the extreme action. We sponsored the laser-tag arena, which was one of the most popular fan activities with a line of eagerly-waiting participants all day long. The wait was worth it though as fans were greeted with free swag—over 6,000 items were given away including sweat-bands, skateboard key chains, and the ever-popular slap bracelets. Visitors to the Rightside tent also had access to a photo booth where they used props to capture the fun in a .NINJA-styled way.
And of course, it wouldn’t be X Games without the much-anticipated skateboard competitions. To build on that excitement, Rightside partnered with the skate.ninja himself, William Spencer. Will dressed up as a ninja, along with some red cohorts and performed parkour stunts near the laser tag arena and throughout the park.
More of his videos from the X Games are available at the William Spencer YouTube channel.
We also had some nice coverage of the event from Domain Name Wire.
